Welcome!

Welcome to the website for the creative technology studio at Artists for Humanity. Artists For Humanity (AFH) provides under-resourced teens the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in art and design.

The purpose of this website is to provide a central location for the creative technology studio to put learning resources and other material that may be useful.

What is creative technology?

Creative Technology is a studio that prepares teens to become future leaders of many new artistic fields and industries. Every participant in the studio will have their own path guided by their interests and curiosity.

Wikipedia defines it as:

a field encompassing art, digital product design, digital media or an advertising and media made with a software-based, electronic and/or data-driven engine.

The key here is software-based. Everything we create in this studio will have a strong software component to it. Software encompasses everything from programs we download on the internet to the code we write ourselves.

What kinds of things will we make?

One amazing thing about creative technology is that it is not bound by a specific medium. While there will always be some sort of computer powering our creations, what our audience sees is virtually limitless. We intend to create websites, animations, games, etc…

Objective: A project Based Approach

Project-based learning is a teaching approach where real-world problems and challenges are actively explored through personally meaningful projects, allowing the participants to demonstrate their knowledge and skills by creating a product for a real audience. In groups of three or more, participants will work together to solve problems in the context of Programming, UX, and Animation.

Websites

A lot of our time will be spent learning how to make websites. Websites are universal, we use them to communicate with our friends, learn store hours, or watch our favorite TV shows, among many other things. Websites are meant to be accessed by anyone and can be viewed on almost any device.

As long as you have access to a computer and the internet you have the tools to create a site and show it to the world. Unlike some of the other things we will build, websites require very little processing power so they are relatively easy to create.
